Welcome To Fulton Montgomery Computer Users Group
MISSION STATEMENT: The Fulton Montgomery Computer Users Group, hereafter known as FMCUG, is an association of individuals who have joined together for the mutual purpose to assist, inform and support those who are interested in the field of Personal Computing. The goal of FMCUG is the furtherance and enhancement of the knowledge of each of its members. We are dedicated to bringing the pleasures and usages of the Personal Computer to all who wish to become part of the group. FMCUG is a not for profit association whose only purpose is to serve PC users. Attendance is open to all without restriction.
Our meetings are open to the public. Levels of expertise range from beginner to seasoned. We have three supportive vendors that assist our group with demonstrations and answering questions. We appreciate their time and efforts and members are under no obligation to purchase from them.
WHEN AND WHERE DO YOU MEET? Meetings are usually held the third Monday of the month at varying locations that best suit that month's program topic. Meetings start promptly at 7pm and last until 8:45. Meeting information can be obtained at www.fultoncomputer.com click on FMCUG. This site should also be checked for cancellations due to inclement weather. Also, we are willing to consider any reasonable suggestion for a meeting place.
HOW LONG HAS FMCUG BEEN AROUND? This particular group was revived in June 2000 and exists today through the combined efforts of its members. A previous group had existed for several years primarily through the efforts of one person until he moved onto other endeavors early in 2000. The original group was founded six years ago by a minister in Gloversville who was later reassigned to another parish.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? At present there are no membership fees or dues. We have a non-fee, non-interest bearing checking account and that register serves as our petty cash journal. Treasurer reports are given at meetings. Donations are appreciated to help offset any operating expenses that the group incurs.
Our group is slightly informal for the purpose of being comfortable... but within a structure that keeps us focused to accomplish as much as possible within the time we meet.
OFFICERS: the group has no president or vice president. At present the meetings are chaired by the secretary who writes our inter-group communications and press releases. Working with the chairperson is a cohesive group of individuals referred to as "the committee" that have specific responsibilities: treasurer, membership coordinator, program committee, webmaster, publicity, and a few others who serve in advisement. We are always looking for capable persons to help determine program topics, and welcome anyone willing to do an on-line newsletter or orchestrate a chat/discussion room.
HOW DO I GET ON YOUR MAILING LIST? Send an e-mail to fmcug@yahoo.com stating the e-mail address you wish us to use. We ask for no other information. We do ask that when you want an address change or wish to be dropped from our list, you tell us of your old e-mail address so we may delete it from our address book. The secretary also uses this snail mail address for the group: FM Computer Users Group, 118 Polar Plaza #167, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
IS MY PRIVACY PROTECTED? We do our best. Yahoo e-mail was specifically chosen due to its blind carbon copy feature so your e-mail address will not be sent to everyone in the group. We will not intentionally release the e-mail addresses of our members. Since we have no database of additional information on you, there is no information to release. If you know of others who would like to be on our e-mail list, we do not accept referrals. . They should e-mail the group themselves and make request.
HOW DO I SHARE INFORMATION WITH OTHERS? Urgent information such as virus warnings should be sent to fmcuginfo@yahoo.com and it will be forwarded to everyone. Tips, links, personal experiences should be posted on the message board where they will remain for reference.
HOW DO I USE THE MESSAGE BOARD? Go to the Fulton Computer Website, www.fultoncomputer.com click on fmcug, then click on the bar that says message board (many of us have this saved under favorites). We encourage people to post questions on the message board where our supportive vendors and other experienced members will post an answer.
We take pride that we are the areas only computer users group that is run by and for home pc users. It is through the efforts of the members that it continues to flourish and we look forward to your participation.
